Creel 5 is an anthology of short stories and poems by undergraduate and postgraduate students from the Department of Literature, Film and Theatre Studies (LiFTS) at the University of Essex. It is the department’s fifth instalment of the anthology series, established in 2012 and originally published by Wivenbooks.
Starting with the theme of ‘collisions’, LiFTS students showcase their creativity, flair and boundary-defying drive by tackling a wide range of topics — from religion, politics and existentialism to the surreal, mythic and deeply personal — to create a collection that celebrates fearlessness and dedication to a high standard that the Essex spirit emboldens. It is the first edition of the anthology to be copyedited and typeset entirely by students, in line with The Centre for Creative Writing’s tradition of encouraging innovation and experimentation.
Foreword by Professor Elizabeth Kuti.
